Optical SHAFT Measuring Machine
The ShadoMASTER SHAFT is a horizontal Camera Based Video Inspection System particularly suited to shaft measurement.
A shaft scanning tool quickly scans the profile of the shaft and the software converts this scanned data into a dimensioned drawing of the measured part – AUTOMATICALLY! Nothing could be simpler.
The cast iron stage has tooling slots aligned with the optical path to facilitate work holding fixtures such as vee-blocks and centres.
Interchangeable fixed objective lenses are used to determine the field of view and pixel size which can be sub-micron for close tolerance requirements.
The VI-3015H shaft measuring machine can measure shafts up to 300mm in length with a maximum diameter of 150mm providing the overall weight does not exceed 25KG The LED lighting consists of 16 high intensity white LEDS which can be switched on in clusters to form a segment which is also radially adjustable. This means that the light can be positioned exactly where it needs to be in order for the edge detection tools to measure the edges that you are interested in. Once programmed, the lighting conditions are reproduced by the software for every inspection to ensure optimum repeatability.
The PC based controller runs on a Windows XP operating system and is completely integrated within the chassis so the installation is both quick and easy with no trailing cables. The system is also supplied with LED surface illumination which is ideal for illuminating the various facets of form cutting tools.
Price to be announced but Manual will be around £10,000 and CNC around
£17,000 - £19,000 depending on options.

3D Optical white light Scanners
DS2 for small items or components
3D Optical Scanner for larger items and components - Up to 1.8M in a single scan
Hand Held Scanner also for large items and components
Six Software Options for the Optical 3D Scanners

The DS2 is a high precision industrial optical scanner suitable for dental applications, jewellery, coins and all other small precision components.

The scanner incorporates white light technology and twin cameras that enables a high resolution to be achieved without compromising quality of data.
The DS2 also has the advantage that the component to be scanned is mounted on a two axis rotation system; this means the part can be rotated and pivoted around a central axis in order that all difficult to scan areas can be quickly captured in a completely automatic process.
This technology was developed for the scanning of margin lines of teeth impressions which traditionally have proved extremely difficult to scan with other systems on the market; the precise scanning of complicated models has now led the DS2 to be the class leading small volume scanner in the market place.
Furthermore the small size of the DS2 is particularly useful in small labs where space is at a premium.
Features:
Twin-camera technology - The DS2 can achieve a single data set with two cameras. This allows a higher accuracy of data to be achieved than single camera systems.
White light scanning - White light scanning technology allows the user to capture clearer less noisy data than conventional laser systems.
Deep Scanning - The narrow angle of the cameras allow line of sight in difficult to reach areas such as narrow cavities.
Variant scanning volume - The DS2 has various scanning volumes which enable the optimal choice per application. Small coins and jewellery can be maximised using the smallest volume set up allowing for higher accuracy and greater detail to be achieved.
Sharp margin line - The twin camera technology enables optimal measurement of sharp margin lines of dental impressions.
Open System - The standard output from the DS2 is STL which enables easy transfer into other CAD/CAM systems.
Compact size - Ideal for small labs 212mm x 340mm x 449mm.

3D Measurement for Speed and Quality
This Optical 3D Scanner uses phase-shifting optical triangulation technology and employs high resolution twin CCD cameras to achieve high accuracy data, with less than 10 microns of surface noise and feature error. No matter what the project scope is this Optical 3D Scanner guarantees the best possible result whenever there is a need for high accuracy and reliability.

Flexible Scanning Angle
Has made scanning of deeper and narrower areas on complex objects possible by adding a 10º triangulation angle with increased depth/diameter ratio. Blind spots that had been previously difficult to scan can now be reached allowing for greater access to cavities and parts with tricky internal features.
Flexible Scanning Area
Provides the possibility of 24 scanning volumes depending on object size and is capable of capturing up to 1.8m in a single shot. Scanning resolution can be increased by moving the cameras into different slots maximising the level of accuracy and detail picked up by the system.
Fast Capture
Capable of capturing a single shot extremely quickly (~1 sec) and can post process large data sets extremely quickly. The ezScan software is capable of handling hundreds of millions of points, allowing large or complex objects to be captured efficiently. Through its advanced technology, Rexcan 4 can help users easily measure objects that have different characteristics from shiny to dark objects.

If you would like to discuss your requirement, arrange a demonstration or if you require further information or prices please Email: sales@purduemetrology.co.uk or contact us
The Hand Held Scanners are 3D video cameras that captures video, each single frame of which is a three-dimensional image.
The scanning process becomes extremely straightforward, simply walk around the object capturing it with the camera from various angles, while the accompanying software automatically combines all the scanned frames into a single mesh.
• No markers required
There is no need to place countless markers all over the object to scan it. The software uses the unique geometry of the object itself to properly align the captured 3D frames and fuse them together.
• High speed and accurate
Thanks to an outstanding measuring speed of up to 1.5 million points per second, Artec scanners perform measurement acquisition dozen times faster than laser scanners, while providing high resolution and high accuracy, up to 0.02mm.
• Portability
The Artec scanner is a handheld device that can be easily moved to and around immobile objects or those that can be touched.
• Wide range of applications
There are very few limits for Artec scanners; architecture, medical, prototyping, sport, education, manufacturing, film, animation, computer graphics, and fashion are just a few industries where this unique technology has been applied.
• Flexible software
The scanner comes with superb software which guides the user through the scanning process and the steps of data post processing until the final 3D model is produced. The model produced transfers seamlessly into popular downstream applications such as Geomagic Studio, Rapidform, 3D Studio Max, Maya, and Z Brush.
Common industry output formats are supported including, STL, OBJ, WRL and PLY

Create complex freeform shapes in a fraction of the time
Creating complex freeform shapes can be a painstaking process using traditional CAD tools—much more laborious than creating a physical model. With Geomagic Studio, you start with the physical model, scan it and then automatically generate perfect continuous surfaces and watertight models that represent it. Advanced editing tools let you further refine the model.
Close the loop between digital and physical Changes are a natural part of the design process as concepts are refined and prepared for manufacturing. Changes can also occur once a part is put in use due to wear and tear. Geomagic Studio closes the loop and aligns the physical and digital worlds, ensuring that you have a digital model that accurately represents the current as-built product. There’s no need to manually update existing CAD models to compensate for the differences.

Quartz scanners are designed for the toughest jobs in metrology. They capture millions of measurements in seconds, making analysis of free-form components a reality. Comparison to CAD is a snap – Quartz is compatible with all major design and analysis tools.
The rugged design of Quartz brings the accuracy of the metrology lab out onto the shop floor, down to the dockyard or into the hangar environment.
These Quartz scanners all employ SmartFringe technology. This is a 3rd generation structured light system (sometimes known as fringe projection system). This offers great resilience to ambient light, and allows measurement of challenging surfaces and materials.
The system operates by projecting sequential patterns onto the object being inspected or measured. These "structured light" patterns are captured with a camera, the results analysed, and the dimensions of the object computed.
The SmartFringe technology brings many benefits over older white–light technologies. Principle amongst these is the capability to operate with reduced contrast between the black and white stripes of the structured light pattern.
This is a significant breakthrough, as compared with competing technologies it allows scanning of:
- Surfaces with high levels of light absorption – such as carbon fibre and composites
- "Bright" surfaces, such as many machined metals
- Components in bright environments, such as workshops, factories or hangars
- Larger components, where the projected light energy is spread over a large area
Wherever real–world environments or difficult materials challenge optical measurement systems, SmartFringe technology brings a significant benefit.
SmartFringe
The Quartz scanners use proprietary advanced numerical algorithms to ensure robust, accurate measurements.
SmartFringe algorithms detect the lowest fundamental frequencies for the light patterns – essentially detecting polarised/orthogonal sinewaves. This allows the system to "work with nature". We no longer have to project sharp, focused stripes as older structured light systems do. By eliminating those sharp edges, we minimise the load on the optics – enabling better measurements.
The orthogonal polarisation of the light patterns enables additional diagnostics and health checking, ensuring that outliers are rejected mathematically – and enabling the scanner to monitor its own calibration status.
Application Examples
Whole–car or panel digitisation Creation of 3D parts libraries where only 2D available (or 2D lost)
Inspection and verification of press tools and patterns/moulds for composites, foundry or forgings – even with complex compound curves
Speed the "try–out" phase of mould or press tool development with rapid comparison of parts to CAD
Avoid costly delays by rejecting out of spec formed components before they cause problems Enhance quality by checking subassembly geometry before acceptance
Generate CAD for old components for maintenance of classic vehicles – or 3rd–party panel manufacture for cars or aircraft
Large aircraft panels can be inspected for bird strike damage – and 3D CAD generated for replacement panels where necessary. Armoured vehicles can be similarly assessed
Quartz systems have been used to scan athletes, record a variety of heritage (such as cathedrals, tombs and statues), and even high performance sports equipment – such as boat rudders/keels, footballs and cricket balls, and many more
