 How to choose a Shadowgraph ProjectorThe main criteria are the type / shape of components to be measured, their typical size and the reporting that will be required.
Horizontal projectors have a metal bed with tee slots for work holding and the light passes horizontally above the bed, these projectors are better for shafts and 3D block shaped parts. Vertical projectors have a glass plate bed, parts are simply laid on it and the light path is vertical, these projectors are best for flat, flexible parts, washers, O rings, gaskets and parts that are too small to hold such as very small shafts, screws etc. A powerful and competitively priced camera based alternative is Project X Both horizontal and vertical projectors come in different sizes, so knowing the typical size of the parts you need to measure is important. Finally there are different display options, either a geometric, button type, menu driven display or a touch screen graphical PC with simple visual representation and powerful reporting with graphical and tabulated reports as well as dxf comparison for irregular shapes, rather than use expensive and difficult to get overlays. If you could please advise horizontal or vertical projector (or describe parts), typical size of parts and type of display, I will be happy to make a recommendation and provide a quotation. Baty R600 - Profile Projector
The Baty R600 with its 600mm (24") screen and high specification, can make simple comparative non-contact measurement through to complex programmed measuring sequences with SPC capability and automatic edge detection. Comparison to DXF is also a simple matter.
The horizontal light beam configuration is ideally suited to large machined or turned workpieces for mounting invee blocks and centres, or customised features.

The innovative new HDV Horizontal Digital Video comparator combines the best features of a horizontal optical comparator and a vision metrology system, ideal for measuring flat parts, machined or moulded parts and cylindrical or turned parts, quickly, simply and accurately.
Utilizing a rigid steel design, with 16" x 6" of stage travel, the HDV is configured like a traditional horizontal comparator. The system has a uniquely mounted 5MP digital video camera, coupled with a choice of quick change telecentric lenses or 6.5:1 zoom for micron-level resolution.
The HDV system includes a powerful 64-bit PC and Touchscreen monitor, which runs MetLogix M3 Metrology software with powerful functions yet simple to use. With this software, DXF CAD files can be imported and 2D Go-No-Go gauges created, similar to using a Mylar overlay chart on a comparator screen.
